2017 Mercy Award Named at Palestine Regional Medical Center
July 27, 2017
Palestine, TX – Palestine Regional Medical Center recently announced that Greg Gunnels has been recognized as the hospital’s 2017 Mercy Award winner. The Mercy Award recognizes one employee from each of LifePoint Health’s hospitals who profoundly touches the lives of others and best represents the spirit and values on which the company was founded.
The Mercy Award is an annual recognition program established in 2002 to honor the life of Scott Mercy, LifePoint’s founding chairman and chief executive officer. The award is considered the highest honor a LifePoint employee can receive.
“At Palestine Regional Medical Center, we share LifePoint’s commitment to Making Communities Healthier, and we recognize this is supported by the good work and service of our employees on and off the job,” said Richard Grogan, interim CEO of Palestine Regional Medical Center. “We are extremely proud to recognize Greg Gunnels for his efforts on behalf of our patients and our community. Greg goes above and beyond each and every day to ensure that every person he encounters receives the highest level of care and compassion.”
Greg serves as the Occupational Therapist at Palestine Regional Medical Center’s Rehab Department. The care and compassion Greg exemplifies when dealing with patients is exactly why he was chosen as this year’s Mercy Award recipient. Nominations from fellow employees, physicians, and volunteers recounted many stories of Greg’s commitment to patients in the form of compassionate, quality care. Greg also cares for his patients by extending a helping hand. He shows his compassion by creating beautiful paintings and bags for his patients, sitting on several professional advisory committees, and contributes to support groups such as Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, and Fibromyalgia groups.
Each hospital winner, including Greg Gunnels, will be considered for LifePoint’s 2017 company-wide Mercy Award. The company-wide winner will be announced this summer and honored during a ceremony in Nashville, TN, in August, to which Greg Gunnels and all hospital winners are invited to attend.
